At Northern University, student internships are organized and carried out in accordance with the official internship regulations and higher education standards. The process ensures continuity in education and is designed to help students apply their academic knowledge in real-world settings.
Types of Internships
Depending on the level of education, the university offers the following types of internships:
- Academic (Introductory) Internship
Usually organized in various organizations, this type helps bachelor’s students develop their knowledge and skills in their field or related areas.
- Professional Internship
Conducted in organizations operating in the relevant or related fields, it focuses on building students’ practical skills and professional competencies.
- Research Internship
Organized individually and based on the requirements and content of the student’s master’s thesis, as well as their personal research plan.
- Teaching/Research (Pedagogical) Internship
A type of teaching practice carried out in secondary, vocational, or higher education institutions. It aims to develop the teaching and research abilities of master’s students.
Duration
- Bachelor’s Degree (full-time and part-time)
Internships are organized twice during the study period, each lasting 4 weeks.
- Master’s Degree (full-time and part-time)
Internships are also organized twice:
- Pedagogical internship – 2 weeks
- Research internship – 4 weeks
Internship Process
- The type, duration, and schedule of internships are defined by each academic program.
- Responsibility for organizing and supervising internships lies with the internship coordinator, faculty dean, relevant departments, and internship supervisors.
- Students must document their internship activities in a practice journal.
- At the end of the internship, the host organization provides feedback and an evaluation in the journal.
- The journal becomes part of the student’s academic record.
- Internship results are evaluated by the department before the end of the semester, according to established assessment criteria.
